San Pedro Ranch Growth Statistics

The teak trees are averaging a 4-inch increase per year in circumference. The average circumference of the teak trees in 2003 was 23 inches. The average is taken by measuring up 4 feet from the ground level.

The teak trees had a radius of 3.7 inches and a diameter of 7.4 inches in 2004.

A teak tree with a 36-inch circumference can produce 49.5 board feet of teak lumber. 1 board foot = 144 cubic inches. A teak tree with an 11-inch diameter or 36-inch circumference can be quarter cut to produce the following board feet:

4 – 1″ x 5″ x 120″ = 2,400 sq inches | 4 – 1″ x 4″ x 120″ = 1,920 sq inches | 4 – 1″ x 3″ x 120″ = 2,800 sq inches

TOTAL = 7,120 sq inches

We planted 47,000 trees in 1999. In 2002, we thinned 14,000 trees which were peeled of their bark and stored for sale as teak poles at $10.00 each. We are going to thin another 10,000 teak trees in 2005 which will leave 23,000 trees that will increase in size to be cut for lumber.

San Pedro Ranch should have trees ready to be milled into lumber by 2006. Approximately 8,000 teak trees will be milled in 2006, 2009, and 2012. The approximate predicted diameter of the teak trees will be:

2006: 11.5 inches | 2009: 15.3 inches | 2012: 19.0 inches

The current wholesale price for teak lumber is $2.50 per board foot. The value of the San Pedro Ranch teak plantation in 2006 will be approximately $4 million based on current teak value.
