We have chosen citric base chelates over EDTA base for a number of reasons.

Citric base chelates perform equally as well as EDTA chelates in field trials. Plants do not distinguish between an EDTA carrier and a Citric carrier. The carrier's job is to get the micronutrients into the root zone. This is where the micronutrients must stay to be utilized by the plant.

EDTA chelates have a slower breakdown time by microbial action in the soil than do citric base chelates. There is a greater chance for the EDTA bonded chelate to leach out of the root zone because it takes longer to break the bond and set the micronutrient.

Citric acids are naturally occuring organic acids (nature's chelating agent). They are found as naturally occuring substances in our soils, around plant root systems and in aquifers.

EDTA is an inorganic synthetic acid. It is not biodegradable and has been added to the Environmental Protection Agency's watch list for clean air and clean water.

For these reasons we at Western Nutrients Corporation feel it is better to work with Citric base chelates.
